Hoface School Vocational/Catering Training Program

As we move towards a more inclusive society, it is essential that we provide vocational training to individuals with autism.

At Hoface International Autism School, we recognize the importance of vocational training in preparing our students for life after school. We believe that catering is an excellent vocational option for our students, and we have developed a comprehensive program to help our students develop the necessary skills to excel in the field.

The catering industry offers a range of opportunities for individuals with autism. The skills required for catering include attention to detail, time management, communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team. These skills are particularly well-suited to individuals with autism, who often excel in structured and routine tasks. Catering also offers a range of job opportunities, from working in a restaurant or catering company to starting your own catering business.

Our vocational training program at Hoface International Autism School is designed to provide our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the catering industry. The program is divided into two parts: theoretical training and practical training.

The theoretical training component of the program covers the fundamentals of catering, including food hygiene, food preparation, and customer service. Students learn about the different types of catering services, including buffets, banquets, and à la carte service. They also learn about menu planning, recipe development, and ingredient sourcing.

The practical training component of the program is hands-on and takes place in our fully equipped kitchen. Students learn how to prepare a range of dishes, from simple appetizers to complex main courses. They also learn how to present and serve dishes, including table setting and service etiquette. Practical training takes place under the guidance of experienced catering professionals who provide feedback and support to help students develop their skills.

One of the unique aspects of our vocational training program is that we incorporate social skills training into the curriculum. Individuals with autism often struggle with social interactions, which can be a barrier to success in the workplace. Our program helps students develop their social skills by providing opportunities for interaction with customers and colleagues. Students learn how to communicate effectively, work as part of a team, and manage their emotions in the workplace.

Our vocational training program is also designed to be inclusive and accommodating to individuals with autism. We recognize that some students may have sensory sensitivities that make working in a kitchen challenging. As such, we have developed strategies to minimize sensory overload, such as using noise-cancelling headphones and providing a designated quiet space for breaks.

Our vocational training program has already had a positive impact on our students. Many of our students have developed a passion for catering and have gone on to secure employment in the industry. Some have even started their own catering businesses, using the skills they learned in our program to create successful enterprises.

In conclusion, vocational training is a crucial component of preparing individuals with autism for the workforce. The catering industry is an excellent vocational option, offering a range of job opportunities and requiring skills that are well-suited to individuals with autism. At Hoface International Autism School, we have developed a comprehensive vocational training program that provides students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the catering industry.
